Home Solar Power Systems – Save Money While Saving The Planet

Home Solar Power Systems are fast gaining popularity across the nation, indeed across the globe. It stands to reason in these days of economic and environmental crisis that we, the human race, start looking toward viable alternative energies, and move away from our expensive, environmentally destructive traditional energy sources.

Solar Power has of course been with us for many decades now, but unfortunately the cost of having home solar power systems installed, puts it out of reach of the vast majority of households. A simple small installation will set you back a couple of thousand dollars, money which most consumers in the current financial climate, simply cannot afford to pay in a lump sum.

So how do we address this situation and remove our selves from the catch 22 status? where its imperative for the sake of the earth and our children’s future, that we switch to an energy like solar, but where the cost is so prohibitive that most of us cannot seriously consider having home solar power systems installed. Well one way is to take matter’s into your own hands and build your own home made solar panels, Yes that’s right build them yourself!

Its not as daunting a task as it may first appear, believe it or not, solar panels can be constructed from materials readily found at your local junk yard or hardware store. Guides to instruct you on how to build home solar power systems are also readily available, you can even purchase them online (see the following link for more information… Solar Power Kits) for a very cheap price (around $40 to $50).

Equipped with one of the above guides you can quickly have your own solar panels built, no super handyman skills needed (which was a relief for yours truly) and you don’t need to be a rocket scientist.

The reduction in traditional energy usage will depend on how far you want to go in developing your own system, but a reduction of up to 80% is not uncommon in most households that implement their own home made solar panels. This equates to not only some very nice monetary savings, but it also equals a lot less harmful energy usage, which in turn gives the earth a chance to breath and repair itself.

So there is something YOU can do about helping save the planet as well as reap some very substantial financial rewards as well.

DIY Solar Power – Should You Build Your Own Solar Panels?

DIY Solar Power has now become a reality, all across the internet guides are springing up promoting DIY solar power solutions and the benefits you can reap from making your own solar panels, but the question needs to be raised, can you really build your own solar panels?

To answer this question I thought it would be a good idea to share my own personal experiences in building my own DIY solar power system.

I first got interested in solar as an alternative energy form when I started to look closer at not only the cost of my households energy consumption but also the impact traditional energy sources are having on the environment.

Being a cleaner, renewable and free form of energy I settled on solar as my alternative energy. I did a search on the internet found a local installer and gave their phone number a call, what happened next shocked me, the cost of having a system installed was just under $9,000! this just wasn’t an option, it would take years to recoup the cost of installation with the savings made from using solar. I decided to dig a little deeper and being a handyman type of guy started looking for a do it yourself (DIY) solution.

I ended up purchasing a how to build solar panels guide for just under $50 and set about following the instructions laid out within. Day one had me taking a trip to my hardware store and purchasing specified materials, this cost me around $200, day two had me hard at work putting together the panels, on day 3 I placed the panels in a good position, wired them to some batteries and there you have it in 3 days I was up and running with my first homemade solar panel.

Take it from me, If I can build my own solar panel anyone can, just make sure you get a good “how to build a solar panel” guide that illustrates very clearly what materials you need to assemble and the steps you need to take to build, you will have a lot of fun building you own DIY solar power panels as wells enjoy the financial savings you will reap.

UAV’s To be Powered by Solar Cells Made from Moth-Eye Film

The Air forces UAV’s (unmanned aerial vehicles) are set to be powered by special solar cells. These are not your regular solar cells however, these cells are dye sensitized and have been made from a combination of moth-eye film and organic dyes. The resulting cells are far more powerful than conventional solar cells.

The cells being produced by The University of Washington’s Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) project team will enable UAV’s to fly further than those using conventional fuel sources, not to mention its cost saving and environmental friendliness factors.

The cells are spread across the wings of the aircraft and allow harvesting of energy on the fly (if you will pardon the pun).

Its certainly encouraging progress into the military looking toward alternative energies and shows just how far we have come when even our defence force heads down the path of solar energy, who knows what repercussions this may have in civilian life, many of the military ground breaking research projects eventually filter their way into every day life in a beneficial incarnation.

DIY Homemade Solar Panels – Do They Really Work?

A lot of you reading this will be interested in building your own Homemade solar panels. You will have read lot of information on them, but I am sure there is one question you would like answered above all, how effective are they or do they really work?

I first put together my first Homemade solar panels quite some time ago now and I have had a good result so far. Whilst many claim you can get energy savings of up to 80% off your usual power bill most of you will find that you don’t reap this much initially, especially with your first Homemade solar panels. The best way to start down the road of energy self sufficiency is to start small, aim to power a few devices at first, you will still be slashing cash off your monthly bill and possibly selling excess energy back to the grid.

Once you have made your first one, it is simply a matter of rinse and repeat, so you can become more and more dependent on solar energy. Perhaps initially look at running a few appliances such as your laptop, radio, television or even lighting, in time you will be able to add more and more as you build up your familiarity and expertise with the process.

You will still need to run some appliances, such as mains run ovens and air-conditioning using the power grid, as they draw massive amounts of energy, much more than even conventional solar power systems can provide (although there are some products like cookers that are now being produced that are designed to run on solar energy). As you increase the number of your Homemade solar panels you will find you can get close to the 80% figure many enthusiasts have obtained.

So the short answer is yes! Homemade solar panels really do work!

You can read more about them and how to go about assembling your own at the following link – Homemade Solar Panels

Why DIY Solar Power is the way of the Future

The future of our current energy resources is a bleak one. Not only are we chewing up our finite energy sources at a rate of consumption never seen before, we are also faced with rising costs and being at the whim of politically unstable countries. Add to this the likelihood that China and India are set to become a couple of the world’s most wealthy countries and the resulting massive increase in energy consumption from their people taking up electrical appliances and motor vehicles that they could not afford before, is frightening both in terms of the fuel being used up and the massive increased detrimental environmental impact.

As we move deeper into the inevitable worsening economic situation we are all currently faced with, it seem logical that we turn to energy resource that are cheap, renewable, locally harvested and environmentally friendly in nature.

One such product that can fulfill all these requirements is DIY Solar Power. DIY (which stands for “Do It Yourself”) Solar Power is fast gaining popularity. There are several major companies that sell DIY solar power kits and an equally large number of companies which sell DIY solar power guides.

For most households on a budget the DIY solar power guides are the cheapest alternative. Priced at around $40 they represent excellent value for money. The guides, often delivered in video as well as written (illustrated) format, show you what materials you need to assemble your own solar panels and generator for under $200, as well as where you can source them (surprisingly your local hardware store should stock all of the necessary components).

Once assembles the DIY solar power kits require little to no maintenance (the little refers to the mess our feathered friends might leave behind from time to time). The money saved can be staggering. Depending on the number of solar panels you produce, you can save as much as 80% off your power bill, as well as allowing yourself the luxury of being less frugal with your energy consumption and providing you peace of mind in the knowledge you are playing your part in keeping the environment healthy.
