Germany leads The Way:

Germany has lead the way in December 2011 with over 2 Gig watts of photovoltaic solar panels installed, this outshone United States which it is reported installed approx 1.7gigawatts of panels for the entire year of 2011! Germany looks set for a total over 7 Giga watts for 2011.

The main reason for this rush of German citizens taking up solar power is due to subsidies with the feed-in tariff discounting its costs by 15% on the first day of January 2012 and is set for another 15% cut by the first of July 2012.

The good news is the rush to convert to solar looks set to continue due to the reduction in costs.

Now if we can just get the rest of the panel to study and follow this German model of Solar transition it would truly make for a good new year.

Building your own solar panels makes a lot of sense in this day and age of increasing power prices and environmental crisis.

Whilst many people opt for a commercial system, the cost makes it prohibitive for a lot of homeowners in particular, with prices starting in the low thousands of dollars. Fortunately for those people there is the option of do it yourself solar panels which can be built for a fraction of the price (usually under $200)

So how do you do it? How do you build your own solar panels?

Well the first and most crucial thing you need to do is get yourself an excellent do it yourself guide. These guides are often referred to as diy solar power kits and retail for around the $50 mark. The guides are essentially a blue print or instruction manual if you will, that will guide you through the process of gathering the materials you need and walk you step by step through the whole process of building your own solar panels.

Surprisingly the materials required to undertake these tasks are readily found in your local hardware store or if you don’t mind scrounging around, your local junkyard!

Another surprising aspect of building your own solar panels is its extremely easy! It’s the kind of project you can include the whole family on, including your children, in. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist or be the world’s most proficient handyman to build your solar panels, if you can cut, glue, hammer and drill you have all the essential skills that will be required.

On the topic of including your kids in the project, you will be surprised how the project can be a great educational tool to raise awareness about global warming and even energy conservation in them. Imagine the bliss of never having to yell at your kids “Turn the light off!” again.

So how much money can you save by building your own solar panels? Well it really depends on how many panels you make and the particular energy needs of your household, but its been reported that you can save up to 80% off your energy bill, now this is a substantial amount for most of us and over the years will build into a very tidy sum indeed. Don’t forget the thousands of dollars you save on having a retail system installed, depending on the size of your house this could easily run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

DIY Wind Power represents yet another alternative energy source that people can use to fight the ever escalating cost of traditional “grid” energy.

Building a DIY wind power system is not as hard as you may think, in fact its really quite simple, so simple everybody should have a go at building their own. That’s right the average do-it-yourself (DIY) handyman (or woman) can easily build their own wind turbine, you don’t need to have a phd in electrical engineering to tackle a project like this.

First a little background on how diy wind power creates usable energy:

What many may be unaware of is wind energy is actually a type of solar energy! You see wind is generated by a combination of factors, including the suns variable heat, the rotation of the earth and the fact that the earth’s surface isn’t smooth.

A diy wind power turbine when placed in the path of wind, will see the wind blow over the turbines and due to their shape the turbines will spin. This spinning of blades, in turn spins a shaft which is ultimately connected to a generator and electricity is generated!

Take a look at the following video which explains it more depth

So how do you build your own DIY Wind Power System?

Well the process is really quite straightforward, you can build a diy wind power turbine for less than a a hundred and fifty dollars with materials readily available at your local hardware store or junkyard.

You will need to get your self a good instruction manual that clearly outlines the materials you need and how to assemble them together into your diy wind power system. There are many guides currently available on line, the best of which can be found by clicking here.

It’s quite a buzz once you have your turbine erected and running, you will have set a fine example for those around you and the sense of achievement of harvesting your own energy, clean energy which isn’t harmful to the environment, is surprisingly cool.

Remember any energy you produce will be free of cost energy totally independent of the power grid.

The project of building a diy wind power turbine is also a great educational task to get your children involved in, not only will they pick up some handyman skills while spending some quality time with their parents, it will also help raise awareness about environmental issues and the importance of energy conservation.

You may also be interested in learning how to build your own solar panels, well the good news is the guide that you receive about building your own diy wind power turbine more often than not will also come with instructions how you can build a solar panel for under a couple of hundred dollars, also with readily available materials. Click here to learn more

So what are you waiting for? Do your bit for the environment, save some money and have a bit of fun with diy wind power project.

Fancy yourself as a do it yourself (DIY) handyman or woman? Want to substitute your traditional energy source for cleaner, cheaper alternative energy? Well there are now do it yourself solar solutions to power your home that you can build yourself and for minimal financial out lay.

I’m sure you would agree that the current economic crisis and global warming status is alarming, wouldn’t you like to do your bit to reduce your carbon footprint as well as slash those large power bills that keep turning up in your mail box? Well read on to learn more.

Growing numbers of people are now building their own solar panels to help supplement the energy requirements of their homes.

In the last couple of years, guides to build your own solar panels have sprung up across the Internet. These guides reveal that making your own solar panel is not as complicated or as expensive as we are lead to believe. In fact you will probably be shocked to know that you can build your own do it yourself solar panels for as little as $200 with materials easily obtainable from your local hardware store.

Ensuring you get a good guide is critical, there are many dubious guides out there that I would highly recommend you avoid. Having said that there are also a few excellent ones, what you want to be sure to do is to find a guide which comes with video instruction as well as written and at least email support.

You will need some tools, such as hammer, tin snips, glue and clamps to put the cells and panels together, but no other specialised tools are required. The only other requirement is to free up a couple of days on the weekend and enlist the help of a friend or family member (if you have kids it’s the perfect project to get them involved in, we found it to be a great educational exercise).

Now I am sure you are sceptical, I know I was, can a homemade solar panel that costs as little as $200 really work? Well the answer is yes. Whilst we are yet to achieve more than around 40%, many people claim to have replaced as much as 80% of their electricity with solar! This translates to savings of hundreds of dollars in many cases slashed from every power bill.

Having said that most people use their DIY solar panels to supplement their household energy needs, combining both electrical and solar energy. This still leads to significant financial savings as well as having the positive impact of reducing the carbon footprint you have left on the environment.

So as you can see there are indeed effective do it yourself solar energy solutions to power your home, you just need to make sure you get a good, easy to follow guide that walks you through the whole process one step at a time.

To learn more about solar do it yourself solutions take a look at the following link, PV solar panels

With the alarming state of global warming and the dire current economic environment we find ourselves in today, it should come as no surprise that many people are looking toward solar energy to go “off grid”, save money and help the environment.

Solar energy is currently the most viable alternative energy solution we have discovered. This due to the billions of dollars that have been ploughed into the research and development of solar panels.

Of all the current usable energy sources Solar is one of the most environmentally friendly as well. No harmful emissions are given off in the production, harvesting and consumption of solar energy.

Solar energy is obtained from energy given off by the sun, and infinitely renewable energy source, as long as the sun continues to shine you will have energy.

Unfortunately, whilst the uptake of solar power by homeowners is on the increase, many people are turned off the idea because of the high price of buying solar panels and having them installed.

However there is now a much cheaper solution that enables every household to get into solar energy and that is to build them yourself! Yes you heard right, it’s now possible to build your own solar cells and it’s not as difficult as you are probably thinking.

The materials you need to build a working solar panel are easily to find at your local hardware store and can be purchased for the fraction of the price of a retail solar panel.

Guides that outline not only what materials you need but also how to assemble them into a solar panel are available online and can be purchased for under fifty dollars.

Doing a Google search for “diy solar power” will reveal a plethora of information, some good, some not so good, its critical you find a good guide to follow if you decide to undertake your own do it yourself solar panel project.

Over time as you build more panels you will lessen your dependence on “on grid” power. You can stop here and replace as much as 80% of your traditional energy source, or you can soldier on, build even more panels or perhaps add something like wind turbines so you can eventually go totally “off grid” and have no dependence on the power grid what so ever.

So if you want to “stick it to the man” and go “off grid” where you will be free of escalating costs and government regulations then building your own solar panels is definitely the way to go.

Many of you will have heard how you can now Build your own solar panel.Do it yourself solar power. Many of you will also be extremely sceptical as to the viability and effectiveness of firstly building and secondly deploying your own solar panel.

Well let me put your mind at ease. DIY Solar panels are extremely easy to build and quite effective in supplying your household with a large amount of electricity.

Now don’t get me wrong, you’re not going to be totally free of the grid, well you could but that would involve building a huge number of panels, but if you’re looking to power around 50 – 80% of your home appliances with solar energy, it will definitely do the job. Replacing this much energy will translate to significant financial savings.

The main cost saving advantage you will get is due to the fact that a diy solar panel can be put together for under two hundred dollars. Compared to the thousands of dollars a retail system costs, you can see the financial savings are indeed significant.

Bear in mind the cost saving benefit is not the only good point of choosing to use diy solar power for your home use, solar energy is also extremely environmentally friendly and will help reduce your carbon footprint significantly.

The only thing you need to do is get a good instruction guide and follow the surprisingly simple process.

Simple tips such as turning of appliances (at the wall outlet) and lights when they are not being used can save hundreds of dollars a year as well as conserver a surprisingly large amount of energy.

Proper insulation in the roof and walls will help with heating and cooling, as will drawing heavy duty blinds on summer days and winter nights, as it will result in cooling in the summer and keeping the cold out on those chilly winter nights.

Fluorescent, halogen or led lighting instead of traditional light bulbs will help a lot as well having a climate controlled reverse cycle, low energy rating air conditioner.

Many appliances now have energy ratings clearly labelled on them so you can make the choice to use the greener, more environmentally friendly appliance. These include, dish washers, dryers, washing machines, stoves, fridges and air conditioners.

Surprisingly running your climate controlled, reverse cycle, air conditioner efficiently and maintaining a comfortable living temperature constantly, will ensure the air conditioner doesn’t need to work harder at different times and will use much, much less energy.

As the major focus of this blog suggests, replacing traditional grid energy sources with alternative energies such as solar and wind power will help slash thousands of dollars of your energy bills, conserve energy whilst maintaining the lifestyle you have become accustomed to.

Over the next few months we will bring you many more practical tips that you will be able to employ in your household to save money and conserve energy, in the meantime get started by using wind and solar power to help power your homes, Read More….
