Researchers have proposed that asphalt roads could be used to collect solar energy. Anyone who has walked across a road barefoot on a hot day will now just how much heat the asphalt contains due to the sun blaring down on it.
Novotech Inc, a company based in Acton, are undertaking research which may see our roads and car parks fitted with solar collectors when they are upgraded.
Laying copper piping under and through the asphalt to create hot water is another project which appears to have a lot of promise.
Whilst the reality of implementing a system is still a ways off it, research appears to be extremely encouraging and we will keep any eye on any developments.
